About Me
My name is Ru, and I started learning Japanese in late 2018 because of my twin loves of Japanese pro wrestling and the Yakuza videogame series. That's why my username is Ruby Ga Gotoku, because in Japan, those games are called Ryu Ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon)! I didn't have much success with learning Japanese until I decided to go hardcore with immersion learning in 2021, which I learnt about from AllJapaneseAllTheTime.com. I only found that website a long time after it stopped updating, but it still was full of motivational content that set me up on the path to experience Japanese content in the original language. Since then, I've only found more and more things to enjoy in Japanese: manga, webnovels, visual novels, JPRGS and more. For a really long time, I didn't think that someone like me would ever be able to learn another language, much less be able to confidently read novels in it like I can now. I set up this site to share some of my journey and perhaps, help YOU think that you can do it too.

別次元の図書館 (Library in another Dimension) bookclub
I run a Japanese bookclub discord server, where me and a bunch of friends read light novels together and discuss them in organised text channels (discussion is in English). It's a very chill, friendly environment and while new books are voted on every two months, there aren't any strict deadlines to finish: so if you're enthusiastic about reading in Japanese, whatever your language level or reading speed, we'd love to have you! Books we've read so far include 無職転生 (Mushoku Tensei), 乙女ゲームの破滅フラグしかない悪役令嬢に転生してしまった (Hamefura), 美しい彼 (My Beautiful Man), キノの旅 (Kino no Tabi), and No. 6.
